01 “Longshang Jiangnan” – Dangchang
Since ancient times, countless writers and scholars have always yearned for the beautiful scenery of the Jiangnan water town. However, few people know that in the vast northwest of the motherland, there is also a “Longshang Jiangnan”. There are beautiful mountains and waters, birds and flowers, which are no inferior to the real Jiangnan water town. And she is Longnan, Gansu Province, a treasure trove with both the clearness of Jiangnan women and the courage of northern men. In particular, Dangchang County, located in the south of Gansu Province and the northwest of Longnan City, has its unique scenery and exotic customs, all of which are inexhaustible.

In fact, many people don’t even know the name of this small city about Dangchang. Most people will definitely read “t à n” as “d à ng”. In fact, in 2014, the “t à n” sound of the word “Dang” was clearly marked in the common dictionaries and other Chinese character reference books. When reading “t à n”, the note is Dangchang. But even so, most people still habitually call it “d à ng” chang. There are many versions of the origin of Dangchang’s name in the local area. However, the ancient Qiang language is the most historical one. According to data records, the Dangchang Qiang people have lived and multiplied on this land for nearly 10000 years, even in the distant Shang Dynasty. Therefore, “Dangchang” should be a Chinese character expression of the pronunciation of the ancient Qiang language. You can also consider it as a transliteration of Chinese.
02 Poems hidden in the mountains and far away
It is not easy to get to Dangchang County because of being deep in the west Qinling Mountains. It takes at least 7 hours to arrive from Gansu, even if it is self-driving. Moreover, the road conditions are not good. There are no railway stations in the city. You can only choose to drive by yourself or transfer to a bus. So that at first, I lost my interest in this small city after learning this, and even got ready to endure hardship. After all, the conditions of Dangchang are still in front of you. But when you really come to Dangchang, you will find that you seem to be too wrong. Although Dangchang is classified as a local poor county, the faces of residents living there are filled with endless smiles. At least in terms of spirit, they are extremely rich.
When you come to Dangchang, you must punch in at Guan’egou, which has the reputation of “Little Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic and Historic Interest Area”. Guan’e Valley, which is only 1km away from Dangchang County, consists of two ditches. One is Daheba Valley, and the other is Guan’e Valley. The two ditches, like a rainbow, closely connect Xinchengzi Village in the southeast of Dangchang and Guan’e Village in the southwest. Guan’egou National Forest Park, with a total area of about 42000 hectares, consists of Guanzhu Valley, Eman Valley, Mulong Valley, Miao Valley and other scenic spots.
