According to foreign media, Sony became the largest customer of AMD last year, accounting for 16% of AMD’s revenue, due to the increased advantage of PS5 in competition with its competitors.
Sravan Kundojjala, an analyst in the semiconductor industry, pointed out that Sony accounted for 20% of AMD’s revenue, and could become the company’s largest customer in recent years, if the performance of Sirius was excluded.
In fact, the gaming business unit is AMD’s largest source of revenue, which shows that the sales of system-level chips of Microsoft XSX | S game consoles are also strong. According to the documents submitted by the company to the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States, AMD sold PlayStation 5 game console chips worth about US $3.776 billion to Sony in 2022, which accounted for 16% of the company’s revenue in that year.
Sony confirmed on CES that it has sold more than 30 million PlayStation 5 game consoles. VGChartz estimates that up to now, the sales volume of PS5 has exceeded 31.77 million units, while Microsoft XSS | X has sold about 20.68 million units.
